I feel overwhelmed by the amount of information that I’m being inundated with at Vietnam Culture Camp. As mamamusement rightly points out, if it’s not about the food, then what is it about? Hmm, it’s hard to encapsulate in a pithy post, I think I’ll need some time to process all of it.
Probably the biggest revelation so far, at least for me, is that there is an entire community of families who have similar stories of how they became families (which, at the same time, are all so radically different) from the Busy-Lazy boys. There’s something comforting and unnerving about seeing so many kids who have faces that look like my son’s, who also have parents who don’t look anything like them. And here I had been living under the delusion assumption that somehow the Busy-Lazy boys were totally ordinary or totally exceptional, I can’t tell which anymore.
After a busy day of Too Many Activities to Pack Into One Day, the camp counselors read some bedtime stories to the younger kids. It was a nice way to cap off our day.

Busy daddy told me to get over my bad self and adjust my judgmental attitude, so that’s what I decided to do. And you know what? I’m actually chillaxin’ a bit into our vacation. Sure, our room still smells like cat pee (apparently, it’s just our room, not all of the Catskills) and there isn’t any Vietnamese eats at the group meals. But no matter.
Everyone is terrifically nice and we’re not spending much (if any) time in our room anyway. Also, it turns out that the American eats at the resort are actually totally delicious, really. The day was jam-packed with activities and meeting new friends, plus plenty of time at the pool and playing outside.
I’m eating a lot of carbs and stuff, but we’re having a fantastic time! Wish you were here!
